Five Unnecessary Deaths At Liberty Station
Yesterday, there were five additional unnecessary deaths in the military. A young soldier went for behavior health care and was unable to be seen because of his distress. He was turned away from getting care because of his so-called misconduct at the Liberty Station Care Center. It was reported by the news media that he returned and took the lives of two officers and three enlisted men.
I have the greatest compassion for the loss of lives and for the families of those who lost loved ones.
Once again, there needs to be significant change in approach, attitudes, methodologies, structure, and care of those suffering from diagnosed human beings of post traumatic stress disorder, mood disorders, and other mental health conditions described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manually. It doesn’t mean to throw the baby out with the bath water but it does mean to take a holistic approach to care.
To begin with, it’s to remove the diagnosis from an individuals psyche. The authorities must stop the diagnosis and stop making these individuals sick. They are not ill.
I’ve written a great deal about holistic approaches and will continue to do so. Change is overdo. I have my reservations and am doubtful that the present system that is in place will be more open to letting more sunshine in?
